It’s exciting times, setting up the November 11 presentation on Humanity Rising. This is the first of four posts leading up to November 11th, to introduce the people who will speak on the subject of calendars based on the rhythms and cycles of the Natural world.

The first we will learn about is the original Mayan Calendar, brought to us by Geraldine Patrick Encina:

The original Maya Calendar was introduced by the Epi-Olmec civilization and used extensively until the early 1800’s in the Yucatan Peninsula. The wisdom of the Mayans is becoming clearer – much was lost in translation and through the premature death of their wisdom-keepers. Their patience and love is an example to us all. A second Mayan calendar was introduced in 1990 by Jose Arguelles: the Dreamspell Calendar. It was the Dreamspell Calendar that inspired the Global Drum Gathering Series. It has awakened the interest of many people and developed a world-wide following. More can be found at the website for the Foundation for the Law of Time.

To whet our appetite about the ancient Mayan calendar Geraldine offers this video in which we learn December 21 2012 was NOT what we thought it was…!!

I look forward to introducing the speakers for the other 3 calendars:

  • The Magoist Calendar by Helen Hwang the calendar that honours the Korean Goddess Mago and the Feminine Flow.
  •  Convolutes by Eric Thompson – based on almost everything that moves in our sky, it’s a convoluted system!
  •  Aboriginal/Indigenous North American Calendar by Shannon Crossbearmore than a loose awareness of the progression of 28 days through the phases of each of 13 Moons with names based in Nature, there’s so much to learn!

More soon… have a great day, and remember – THIS is the FUN part!!
