Now What?! Conversations have been extended through June! These questions are a great way to go deep with people you know, or people you don’t know!
Grace joined me in a breakout room where we first engaged in a short “connecting” conversation. After Ben explained the “Gifts” conversation, we resumed our connection to speak about the Gifts we possess – and offer. It’s not a gift until it is given! I told Grace about the magic in my life and the stories I offer about MOM (you know, the Magic in Ordinary Moments that happen to everyone no matter what they believe!) Describing MOM as a way to stay in touch with the Divine, I told her that when I’m surprised by seeing patterns of numbers (digital MOMs), it’s reassuring; like the Hand of the Divine on my shoulder, and sometimes they’re hilarious or spectacular. The numbers can be addresses or anything, but most often it’s the time. As an example of what I meant, I moused up to look at the time on my computer – it was 11:23… !!WOW!!MOM!! I’d been ready to say, “Well, if it said 12:34…” but this was SO MUCH BETTER!! I burst into laughter and threw my arms in the air!
MOM often responds clearly to me, and some stories are special because they’re not for me, but through me. A few years ago, on our way to a Powwow, Christa asked me if the magic I talk about is real. I said it was – but why would my saying it again make it any more true, for her? Mine are merely stories, true as they may be. MOM wields the power to truly change minds. She’s been Awakening people forever!
Here’s the story, an excerpt from my Book of MOM, yet unpublished…
We were on our way to a Powwow, a traditional gathering of North American First Nations people, neighbours of ours. First, an amazing spectacle: the Grand Procession in which everyone, in their turn according to their affiliations, joined the swirling spiral of colourfully dressed, feathered and fringed people, dancing and walking around and into the centre, to the beat of many big drums; and then we joined them! Powerful emotions swept over us, priming us for our experience of the following traditional and non-traditional presentations. (I don’t think a competition for Miss Powwow is traditional, but I could be wrong!)
It was a deep personal pleasure to hear the young women speak their thoughts and then provide evidence of their dedication to a skill. One of them caused the entire gathering to fall silent – a single flute with a haunting melody in the middle of hundreds of people. As the song wove its magic I noticed people looking up, pointing and nodding… I looked and had to nudge my friend, sharing with her the circle far above, reflecting the circle below. Above was a dense circle that could be covered by a loonie, or silver dollar, held at arm’s length, woven by black and white birds in the centre of the round sky-blue circle edged by the Powwow roof covering the stands – crows and seagulls together, etching a pattern of magical beauty… and when her song was done, they all flew away…
We were so amazed we buzzed about it to each other for days. The time came and went when I thought there should have been mention of it in the newspaper. I wondered why such a clearly magical moment received no mention! Finally, I was inspired to ask the right person at the right time; in their culture magic is not spoken of casually because each person experiences it differently. I was told, by someone else, that similar circles (of eagles, in his case) had gathered over circles he had drummed in.
To bring this chapter to a close, I offer you a few questions to ponder, journal or, maybe, to ask in prayer:
- When has MOM visited you? They aren’t always nice visits – sometimes it’s a shake awake; a lesson for you; or part of another’s.
- What is being indicated or created in your life by MOM? What choices are being shown to you?
- What if we shared our MOM with each other? Would the larger plan become more visible, and help us to align within the flow of time?
- What do you think our (collective) MOM is leading us to, or is She, perhaps, doula for a more-than-royal birth?
